“Dixitque Deus : Fiat lux. Et facta est lux.”

Genesis 1:3

“Let there be light” was the first words from God to us and the creations in response with its very own existence. Light, in both scientifically and spiritually, governs our very own human existence. The prior being the source of energy on the earth we dwell while the latter symbolises life, hope and the presence of God, who is the source of all light and grace, who took up flesh and dwells among us.

Here in Church Candles NZ, it is our mission we provide a wide range of candles use for both home and churches at an affordable price. To bring light to Christians and people of goodwill so the light of Christ can dwell in their hearts. Our selection includes:

Mary, the woman who bore the Word made flesh into the world

All our candles are handmade in Just Crafting Studio which is located in Henderson, Auckland, New Zealand.

In the Holy Scripture, it was written,

Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”

John 8:12

Carrying on from the Jewish tradition, candlelight has been used for Christian worship since the very beginning of Christianity. Practically, it is used for lighting up the place of worship, but also spiritually, it reminds us of the presence of Christ who is the True Light of the world. The True Light where our faith is built on, our hope anchors, and our love inflame.

From the Eucharistic Ceremony in churches to private prayers at home, lighting candles is an important aspect of Christian devotional life.

The concept of light is throughout the scripture as well as expressed throughout our prayers. Every Sunday, Catholic Church, as well as the orthodox Christians, recite the Nicene Creed saying,

God from God, Light from Light, True God from True God

Nicene Creed

and in the Easter Vigil as the Pascal Candle is being lit, the Exsultat exclaim,

On this, your night of grace, O holy Father,
accept this candle, a solemn offering,
the work of bees and of your servants’ hands,
an evening sacrifice of praise,
this gift from your most holy Church.

But now we know the praises of this pillar,
which glowing fire ignites for God’s honour,
a fire into many flames divided,
yet never dimmed by sharing of its light,
for it is fed by melting wax,
drawn out by mother bees
to build a torch so precious.

Finally during the Baptismal Rite,

Take this burning candle as a reminder to keep your baptismal innocence. Obey God’s commandments, so that when our Lord comes for the joyous wedding feast you may go forth to meet Him with all the saints in the halls of heaven, and be happy with Him forevermore.
